Class 101 – Discovering Livingway Membership

We at Livingway are thrilled that you are interested in becoming a member of Livingway Church.  We are growing because God is adding to this church every week.  While we are growing, we are doing everything we can to keep the ‘family’ atmosphere in Livingway.  Membership is the one of our ways of incorporating you into our church family.

This is Class 101 of Livingway’s Higher Learning Classes.  All subsequent classes are available to be taken in the proper sequence once you have completed Class 101 and become a member of Livingway.

The goal of this class:  That we will commit ourselves first to God and secondly to the Livingway Church Family.

In this course, we will study four major subjects of great importance concerning Livingway.

Our Salvation: What God has done for us
Our Statement: Why we exist as a church
Our Strategy: How we fulfill our purpose
Our Structure: When and where we fulfill that purpose

We have three statements that will be covered in this session:

Our Statement of Purpose – Why this church exists
Our Statement of Faith – What this church believes
Our Statement of Practice – What this church does

“You should be just like one big, happy family full of sympathy toward each other, loving one another with tender hearts and humble minds.”  1 Peter 3:8

God’s Word places great importance upon Baptism and the receiving of the Lord’s Supper.  These are foundational truths of our faith and they are both covered in Class 101 materials.

At the close of this class, there is a Livingway Membership Covenant that each attendee will be invited to sign, thusly becoming a member of the Livingway Church Family.  The completion of this course makes you eligible to move on to Class 201: Discovering Spiritual Maturity.

Class 201 – Discovering Spiritual Maturity

“We are not meant to remain as children but to grow up in every way into Christ.”  Ephesians 4:14,15

Now that you have become a member of our Livingway Church Family, we encourage you to enroll in Class 201: Discovering Spiritual Maturity.

This course is designed to place your feet on a path toward spiritual maturity in your personal walk with the Lord and prepare you to fulfill His plan for your life.

The PURPOSE OF THIS CLASS can be summed up in this Scripture:  “That you may become mature Christians and that you may fulfill God’s will for you.”

In this class, we focus on these four basic habits that every Christian needs to develop in order to grow to spiritual maturity.  Not only will you learn their importance according to the Word of God, but you will gain knowledge of the ‘how to’ for each of these holy habits.

Time with God’s Word
Prayer
Tithing
Fellowship

You will be equipped with the skills and tools you need to begin and continue these habits so that you can become more like Christ every day!

“Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ” Ephesians 4:13

At the close of this class, there is a Spiritual Maturity Covenant Card that each attendee will be given the opportunity to sign.  Once you have signed that card, it signifies that you have completed Class 201 and you are ready to move on to Class 301: Discovering My Ministry!

Class 301 – Discovering My Ministry

“God, in His grace, chose me even before I was born, and called me to serve Him.”  Galatians 1:15

We believe that you must first be committed to MEMBERSHIP in a church family (Class 101) and committed to the habits of SPIRITUAL MATURITY (Class 201) before you are ready for MINISTRY (Class 301).

In this course, you will learn that what God made you to be determines what He intends for you to do in His Kingdom.  We will help you discover your S.H.A.P.E. and thus reveal your ministry.

S – Spiritual Gifts
H – Heart
A – Abilities
P – Personality
E – Experiences

There are two basic goals for this class:

1. To help you discover your unique design for ministry and commit to developing and using your God-given gifts and abilities in serving God and others through the Livingway Church Family.
2. To help you select and begin serving in the ministry or ministries of Livingway that will best express what God made you to be.

“I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.”  Ephesians 4:1

At the close of this class, there is a Livingway Ministry Covenant that you will be invited to sign.  This signed covenant makes you eligible for involvement in the many Livingway ministries that are available.  You will be prepared and equipped to fulfill God’s plan for your life through ministry!

If you should desire to continue the Higher Learning Classes, the next course we offer is Class 401: Discovering Livingway Leadership.  This course is required only for those who will become Directors and Assistant Directors of the ministries within Livingway Church.  However, anyone who chooses to further their education and prepare themselves for future leadership is welcome to enroll.

Class 401 – Discovering Livingway Leadership

“But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.”  Luke 22:26

Now that you are a MEMBER of the Livingway Church Family (Class 101), you are taking the necessary steps toward SPIRITUAL MATURITY (Class 201), and you are involved in one or more of Livingway’s many MINISTRIES, it may be time for you to consider enrolling in Class 401: Discovering Livingway Leadership!

In this course, you will study leadership principles that are based on God’s Word.  We are confident that upon completion of this class, you will be better prepared to assume a leadership position at Livingway and be a more informed Christian about the way God has intended for His people to lead.

The four cornerstones of this class are:

Christian Authority
Spiritual Obedience
Servant Leadership
Godly Leadership

“Not to be served, but to serve” should be a motto of every Livingway leader.

Jesus is our Supreme Example in all things, and He said, “Whoever would be first among you must be servant of all.”  (Mark 10:42-44 and Matthew 20:25-28)  When He washed the feet of His disciples, He was showing us how to be a leader by serving.

“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.  Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”  Philippians 2:3,4

Upon completing this course, the class requirements for being considered for a position of leadership at Livingway Church will be met. 

These classes must be taken in sequential order. They are offered on the first Sunday of each month. Immediately following the 11:00 a.m. service, a complimentary light lunch will be served to everyone who is signed up in advance to attend that day’s classes.

A binder containing the class notes is provided to each student. The classes will begin at approximately 2:00 p.m. and will run simultaneously until around 5:00 p.m. At the end of each class, you will receive a certificate of completion. Free nursery service is provided for class attendees’ children up through age 6.
